Halloween treats for grownups

Orangeville Apartments, Apartments Orangeville, Apartments for Rent in Orangeville, Orangeville apartment rentals, Apartments in Orangeville, Apartment rentals in Orangeville, Orangeville Apartments for Rent

Halloween can be a tricky holiday for grownups. The spooky, gross-out party themes that are common this time of year can be fun, but may not always be suitable for the atmosphere you want to create. If you are hosting a more elegant Halloween soiree for grownups this year at your Orangeville apartment, or you are heading out to party and you want to bring something a little more refined, the Williams and McDaniel blog team is here for you. We’ve prepared a list of delicious and elegant Halloween treats to enjoy this year.

Graveyard Chicken Enchilada Dip

This subtle Graveyard Chicken Enchilada Dip is creamy, spicy and loaded with pepper jack cheese – without feeling cheesy. It is cute and elegant at the same time. The dip is topped with tortilla ‘gravestones’ and lettuce for graveyard grass. Dip into some scary, savoury good times before you hit the dessert table.

Pumpkin Patch Cakes

These mini-bundt cakes are stacked on top of each other to form the pumpkin shape. Using orange and green food colouring gives them their pumpkin colour. They are then glazed and decorated with pretzel pumpkin stems and marzipan leaves to make Pumpkin Patch Cakes – the perfect addition to any Halloween dessert table.

Spider Cake

This black and white Spider Cake is a rich and delicious chocolate-hazelnut buttercream that will please everyone (except hardcore arachnophobes). The marble cake satisfies both chocolate and vanilla cravings and the spider web design tops it off. You can go all out and make bittersweet ganache spiders to adorn it.

Ultimate Caramel Apples

These are not your average candy apples, these are Ultimate Caramel Apples. Tart Granny Smith Apples are covered in a homemade caramel sauce and finished off with a variety of toppings, sprinkles and swizzles.

Pumpkin Cake Truffles

Nothing could be more fitting on an elegant Halloween dessert table than these chic and classy Pumpkin Cake Truffles. These delicate desserts feature spiced cream cheese frosting over moist pumpkin cake, dipped in chocolate and assorted toppings! Bite sized bits of joy.

You may also find a small cave or two to explore. Mono Cliffs is nestled just north of Orangeville, a 20-minute drive from Mill Place Apartments (17 Church Street).

Monora Park

While Monora Park (500 Monora Park Pavillion Road) is most popular during snowshoe season in the winter, this local park is still a lovely spot for a fall hike. Plus, during the fall, hiking is free. Enjoy fall colours from the Monora Park Pavilion, the picnic area, the pond or as you traverse the 18-kilometres of trails through the forest. Homemade froyo recipes for healthy summer snacking

Orangeville Apartments, Apartments Orangeville, Apartments for Rent in Orangeville, Orangeville apartment rentals, Apartments in Orangeville, Apartment rentals in Orangeville, Orangeville Apartments for Rent

What’s better than a cool frozen treat in the summer? It can be refreshing, fun, and easy to make. Everyone loves ice cream – maybe you’ve even own an ice cream maker. Frozen yogurt is a delicious low fat alternative to ice cream. Make some using Greek yogurt instead of heavy cream. The Williams and McDaniel Property Management blog team has some delicious recipes for you to try at home in your Orangeville apartment — with or without an ice cream maker.

Vanilla Froyo

It’s best to start with the basics. Once you’ve got vanilla frozen yogurt mastered, then you can go anywhere from there. This summer froyo recipe requires only three simple ingredients: greek yogurt, sugar and vanilla. That’s the way it should be! All you have to do is stir the ingredients together (use less sugar if you want a more tart yogurt) cover it and refrigerate for an hour, then freeze in an ice cream maker.

Peach Froyo

This simple peach froyo recipe requires only four ingredients: peaches, yogurt, honey and lemon juice (or salt). There is also the added benefit of not requiring an ice cream maker! You simply put the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth! If you want it right away, use frozen peaches. If you’re saving it for later, place the final product in an air-tight container and place it in the freezer.

Strawberry Froyo

After seeing how easy it is to make peach froyo, you’re probably realizing the possibilities are endless. Simply substitute whatever frozen fruit you prefer! This video will show you how to do it!

Gingersnap-Banana Froyo

This is an example of what you can do once you’ve mastered making vanilla froyo at home. This recipe calls for vanilla frozen yogurt (see above). Now you’re ready to go beyond with this delicious spiced Gingersnap-Banana frozen yogurt!
When it’s this easy to make a low fat, frozen treat at home, the hardest part is deciding what flavour to try next! Here’s to keeping cool this summer! How to clean your kitchen appliances?

apartments for rent in Orangeville, cleaning, kitchen, apartment living, Orangeville Apartments, Apartments Orangeville, Apartments for Rent in Orangeville, Orangeville apartment rentals, Apartments in Orangeville, Apartment rentals in Orangeville, Orangeville Apartments for RentKeep your kitchen appliances running and performing like new by cleaning them on a regular basis. Once you’ve cleaned them, you can enjoy safer, more efficient means of cooking and storing food. To help residents of the Embassy Apartments and Mill Place Apartments in Orangeville, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together everything that you need to know when tackling your kitchen appliances.

Fridge

1. Empty It Out + Consolidate

Before you jump into scrubbing and disinfecting, start by taking everything out of the fridge and placing it on the counter. Remember to place your perishables in a cooler to keep them fresh. Next, rid yourself of those expired items that should have been disposed of long ago. Free up even more shelf space by consolidating two of the same item or food type.

2. Remove The Shelves

Give your fridge the ultimate TLC it deserves by taking out the shelves and drawers. This will allow for a deeper clean. Be sure to carefully remove glass drawers and shelves before you start washing to avoid cracking.

3. Get Cleanin’

White vinegar is a must-have for cleaning. Combine water with vinegar and use it to clean your fridge from top to bottom. Use towels or sponges to wipe down the drawers and an old unused toothbrush to get into corners and crevices. Finish off by drying the interior of the fridge with a cloth or paper towel. The shelves and drawers are up next and can be cleaned with two tablespoons of baking soda and a quart of hot water.

4. Restock It

Refill your fridge with all your remaining food, making sure to wipe down any jars that have sticky residue.

5. Remember The Outside

Don’t forget to show the outside of your fridge some TLC with some multi-surface cleaner and paper towel. If you have a stainless steel fridge, use a microfiber cloth and a stainless steel cleaner, remembering to wipe in the direction of the grain.

6. Stay Clean

Now that your fridge is clean, keep it that way. Clean out expired food at least once a week and place a container of baking soda on a shelf to reduce odours.

Oven

Self-Cleaning Oven

Self-cleaning ovens are equipped with a feature that allows the oven to heat up so much that food residue and grease are turned to ash. Be sure to pick a cleaning time when your kitchen is the least active and children and pets are away from the area. To avoid harmful fumes and odours, open up your apartment’s windows for ventilation. Next, remove oven racks, place them in a warm water-dishwashing liquid mixture to soak and turn on your oven’s self-cleaning mode. The oven should clean for two to six hours and should be allowed to cool for at least two hours following the cleaning cycle. Open the door, brush out the ashes, clean the oven door and follow up with the soaking racks.

Cleaning a Non-Self-Cleaning Oven

Start the process by removing oven racks, placing them in warm water mixed with soap and creating a cleaning solution for the oven’s interior. Four tablespoons of baking soda and water in a spray bottle will do the trick. Spray down the interior, making sure to focus on charred, stained areas. Let this paste settle for at least an hour and test to see if the charred areas have loosened. If they have, chip off charred pieces with a scraper and repeat this process again. Wipe down the oven again with a solution of half vinegar, half water, making sure to clean up oven racks and place them back in the oven.

In-Between Cleans

  • Place a baking sheet on the rack to catch food spills and grease.
  • Clean up spills right away to avoid caked on messes by sprinkling salt on the affected area and wiping up with a damp sponge.

Microwave

Using Vinegar

Fill a microwave-safe dish half full with water and add a tablespoon of white vinegar before placing it in the microwave. Turn it on for five minutes and watch the dried grime loosen. Next, remove the container, wipe down the insides with a rag or paper towel and be sure to take out and wash the glass tray and turntable.

Using a Lemon

Slice a lemon in half, place both halves cut-side down on a microwaveable plate with a tablespoon of water and microwave for about one minute. Follow up by wiping the inside of the microwave with paper towel or a reusable cloth.

Using Dish Soap

Fill a microwave-safe bowl with warm water, add in dishwashing soap and place in the microwave for one minute. Remove the bowl and take a damp sponge and wipe the insides. Add baking soda to the bowl to serve as a deodorizer and leave the microwave open for a few minutes to air out.

All natural Easter egg dyes

apartments for rent in Orangeville, holidays, DIY, healthy living, Orangeville Apartments, Apartments Orangeville, Apartments for Rent in Orangeville, Orangeville apartment rentals, Apartments in Orangeville, Apartment rentals in Orangeville, Orangeville Apartments for RentGet ready for Easter by planning and preparing your festive decorations. Keep things natural and chemical free by using natural dyes rather than the pricey store-bought variety. Our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together some natural dyes that residents of the Embassy Apartments and Mill Place Apartments can use in their elaborate Easter displays.

Start by hard-boiling eggs and letting them cool. Next, it is time to prepare the natural colors that will embellish them. For best results, make each color separately. Bring all your colors to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover for 30 minutes and add 1/8 cup of distilled white vinegar. Below are some natural ingredients that will give Easter eggs a festive pop of color.

Blue

Chop one red cabbage into two-inch chunks, cover with water and cook as per the instructions above for a blue hue. Pick up any ingredients you might need at Metro located at 150 First Street. The Mill Place Apartments are a five-minute drive and 21-minute walk from the store.

Red

There are multiple ways to naturally achieve a red color. One method involves one to three pounds of unpeeled, cut red beets. Beet juice is another option. Combine the juice of a can of beets with hot water and submerge your egg into the mixture for a reddish tint.
Rusty Brown

Combine six to eight brown onion skins with water to create a beautiful rusty brown coloring on your eggs.

Beige/Taupe
Use ½ cup of ground coffee mixed with four cups of water for a beige/taupe hue.

Violet

If you have overly ripe blueberries, use them to dye your eggs. Simply squeeze them to release the juice and add a few tablespoons of water. Add the eggs into the mixture and in minute you’ll have a gorgeous violet hue. Located at 500 Riddell Road, Sobeys has the ingredients and supplies you need for your Easter decorating. The Embassy Apartments are a seven-minute drive and 45-minute walk from the store.

Yellow

You can achieve yellow coloring by using three tablespoons of dried turmeric mixed with water or by boiling the peels of yellow onions in water. Either of these will yield yellow dye that you can decorate your eggs with.

Pink

Add some pastel tones to your eggs with some cranberry juice. Pour cranberry juice in a bowl and soak your eggs in it for a few minutes. You’ll soon have the perfect pink hue for your Easter decorations.

If you’re in need of more colors, Meyamo has created an instructional guide to creating handmade fruit and vegetable-based paints. Located at 8 First Avenue and 17 Church Street, Williams and McDaniel’s Embassy Apartments and Mill Place Apartments offer current and prospective residents ideal rental options in Orangeville.
